About This Residency
a cobert is an independent residency and contemporary art project based in Moià, a small town in central Catalonia, around one hour from Barcelona. We host artists, curators and researchers working across contemporary art, writing, sound, performance, moving image, design and situated research. Our residencies are closely connected to the local context and often develop through conversations, fieldwork, archives, walks, encounters with local people and collaborations with nearby institutions, craftspeople and cultural spaces.
Experience & Atmosphere
Daily life at a cobert is quiet, flexible and self-directed, with time for both focused work and engagement with the surrounding territory. Moià offers a slower rhythm than the city, with easy access to forests, rural landscapes, local archives, workshops and community spaces. Residents usually combine studio time with research, walks, conversations, visits and informal exchanges with the a cobert team. What makes the residency distinctive is its small scale and close accompaniment. We do not operate as a production factory or a large residency centre: each process is followed individually, with attention to what the artist actually needs. Depending on the project, we can help create connections with local practitioners, institutions, archives, schools, designers, craftspeople or other cultural agents in the Moianès region.
Mission & Goals
a cobert supports artistic and curatorial practices that are research-based, context-sensitive and open to experimentation. We are especially interested in projects that engage with territory, memory, rurality, ecology, material processes, language, sound, forms of transmission, local knowledge and contemporary social questions. The residency is conceived as a space for research, development and exchange rather than only for finished production. We support artists who want to test ideas, work with a specific context, develop publications or exhibitions, build relationships with local communities, or explore new directions in their practice. Public outcomes may take different forms depending on the project: exhibitions, talks, workshops, publications, performances, screenings, open studios or process-based presentations.
