Experience & Atmosphere
Bulbul Art-Residence offers a quiet, informal, and inspiring environment for focused artistic work. Located in Besh-Kungey village, just outside Bishkek, the residency is surrounded by mountains, open landscapes, and everyday village life. Artists have their own private rooms and access to a shared studio, kitchen, and terrace. Daily life is flexible and self-directed, allowing residents to develop their projects at their own pace. At the same time, we encourage exchange between residents and connections with local artists, researchers, craftspeople, and communities. Bulbul is family-run residency where artists work in close contact with local culture, nature, and the everyday rhythms of family life.
Mission & Goals
Bulbul Art-Residence is an artist residency based in Kyrgyzstan that supports contemporary artists, researchers, and interdisciplinary practitioners in developing new work through time, space, and engagement with the local context. We support both emerging and established practitioners working across visual art, research, craft, and experimental practices. Our goal is to create a space for focused artistic work, cultural exchange, and meaningful connections with local artists, communities, and practitioners, while encouraging artists to explore Kyrgyzstan’s landscapes, culture, history, and contemporary life.
