About This Residency
Descoverartists offers artist retreats on the island of Chios for independent artists seeking focused time, shared space, and meaningful exchange. The retreat is self-directed and has no fixed schedule. Artists work at their own pace while living alongside a group of peers in a shared home designed for concentration, slowness, and depth. Retreats take place at Eona House, a restored historic home in Nenita, Chios. Each resident can choose a private or shared bedroom and has full access to shared indoor studios, gardens, and communal areas. The house is designed to support both solitude and connection through shared meals and everyday moments.
Experience & Atmosphere
Descoverartists is a self-directed residency designed for artists who value time, space, and creative freedom. There is no fixed schedule or pressure to produce a final outcome. While we occasionally organise optional workshops, artist talks, creative exercises, and group activities, participation is never required. Residents spend their days developing their practice, exploring the island of Chios, sharing meals and conversations with fellow artists, or simply slowing down and observing. Limited to a small international group at a time, the residency encourages genuine exchange while respecting the solitude that creative work often requires. We believe creativity flourishes when artists are given both the freedom to follow their own rhythm and opportunities to connect with others when they choose.
Mission & Goals
Our purpose is to create the conditions for meaningful artistic development. Rather than focusing on production or exhibition, we support research, experimentation, reflection, and the creative process itself. We welcome artists from all disciplines and at all career stages, whether they are beginning a new project, developing an existing body of work, conducting site-specific research, or simply seeking uninterrupted time to think and create. Inspired by the history, landscape, and culture of Chios, the residency offers an environment where curiosity, interdisciplinary dialogue, and long-term creative growth can naturally unfold.
