About This Residency
Nes Artist Residency (Nes Listamiðstöð) is an international residency established 2008 in Skagaströnd, a small village in Northwest Iceland. The studio at Fjörubraut 8 was once a fish processing plant in Skagaströnd. Nes provides artists, writers, and musicians with studio space and accommodation in a shared house, and the freedom to work at their own pace. Now one of the largest residencies in Iceland, Nes hosts between 90-120 artists per year, accepting applications year-round
Experience & Atmosphere
As a remote residency located in a unique, challenging, and stunning landscape, Nes motivates artists to draw inspiration from the solitude (and presence) provided by the surrounding environment. Beyond the studio walls, Nes aims to provide opportunities for international dialogue, regional development, and local arts programing. Nes is deeply rooted in the community of Skagaströnd, and values collaboration of all kinds.
Mission & Goals
Nes is a process-oriented residency fostering art through Icelandic cultural exchange. We strive to cultivate an environment where artists of all disciplines, both emerging and professional, craft their experience as they choose; whether through experimentation, conceptual development, or research.
